This is all from David Powlison’s amazing class, The Dynamics of Biblical Change.
Powlison says looking at the structures of the prayers of Paul, particularly Colossians 1 and Philippians 1, there are essentially 2 things he prayers for:
1. That you would know God. The clarity, forcefulness, and reality of your faith.
2. That your love would become more intelligent. That we would live a life that is better for other people.
Ultimately, that we would awaken in our relationship to God and awaken in our relationship to each other.
And this doesn’t happen overnight, but it’s a process that goes from a “pre-dawn” state to getting brighter and brighter everyday: “The path of the righteous is like the first gleam of dawn, shining ever brighter till the full light of day.” Proverbs 4:18
May your Sabbath day be restful and God-full.
